What is a Dental Cleaning?
A professional dental cleaning reinforces the home-care oral health regimen of brushing and flossing and gives the dentist an opportunity to locate areas in the mouth that need special attention.
Who needs a Dental Cleaning?
The ADA strongly recommends that everyone sees a dentist or hygienist every six months for a dental exam and cleaning.
What should I expect at my appointment?
Most cleanings are performed by a dental hygienist. Usually, they begin with a physical exam of your entire mouth. They may choose to take x-rays of individual teeth or a large panoramic x-ray of the entire mouth. Our office utilizes digital x-ray technology which is more efficient and safer than traditional film x-rays. The hygienist will then use a scaler to get rid of plaque and tartar around your gum line. After your teeth are tartar-free, the hygienist will polish and floss your teeth. Some gum sensitivity is normal after a dental cleaning but should subside quickly.
